College Advising Services

We’ve Moved!! Robertson is now Collegewise! Same great counseling, but with a new name… www.collegewise.com

Robertson will help you take control of the college application process and make it an experience that is manageable for parents and enjoyable for students. Each student has unique needs and identifying colleges that fit these needs is essential. We will create an individualized plan to strengthen the weaknesses and also leverage the attributes of the student.

Your action plan may include the following:

  1. Academic Planning
    • College admission begins with selecting the right courses in high school. Robertson Educational Consulting will help you choose the right courses. We will review the student’s record of completed coursework and help select an appropriate curriculum to suit the student’s needs and their college goals.
  2. Standardized Test Preparation
    • There are many decisions to make when it comes to standardized tests. You will be guided through testing maze: PSAT, SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement. Through a well-designed strategy, you will feel confident in your preparation for the standardized tests.
  3. The College Search
    • Construct, explore, and evaluate the college list
    • Review and optimize student’s application materials and “brag sheet”
    • Prepare college tours for families
    • Assist with final decision-making process once acceptances arrive
  4. Essays
    • The application essay is the student’s chance to give the admissions office a glimpse of the person behind the paper. Whether it is a comprehensive strategy from brainstorming through final draft or last-minute review and advice, Robertson Educational Consulting will help you maximize the opportunity the essay provides.
  5. Interviews
    • For many students, the interview is the most daunting part of the college application process. Through practice and review, we will ensure that the student is prepared and confident when it comes time for the interview.
  6. Financial Aid
    • The financial aid process is a separate, yet equally daunting college application process. We will assist families with both federal and school-based financial aid applications. We will also help identify potential sources of alternate funding, such as scholarships and grants.

Services for Student-Athletes

  • As an undergraduate, Amanda was a four-year letter-winner on the Swim Team at Middlebury College. She earned All-NESCAC and NCAA All-America honors and served as team captain her senior year. Amanda has also served as college counselor for student-athletes who were recruited for a variety of sports at all three NCAA divisions. She understands NCAA and institutional regulations both as an athlete and as a college counselor.
  • In addition to the typical process that students must go through in applying to college, student-athletes have a second process. You can take control of this process, too. Whether it is at a powerhouse NCAA Division I school or at a small NCAA Division III college with no athletic scholarships, coaches and admissions offices often work together in evaluating applicants. We will help guide you through the recruiting process from start to finish.

Services for Students with Learning Disabilities

  • Amanda served as the Director of College Placement at The Chelsea School in Silver Spring, MD. Chelsea is an independent school focused on the unique needs of students with learning disabilities. She has particular expertise assisting families in evaluating different colleges with varying levels of support to find the right fit for each student.
  • For some students, there are more criteria to consider throughout the college application process. Working with Robertson Educational Consulting, we will help identify the appropriate level of support for the student at the college level. Additionally, you will be prepared for the legal and institutional differences in services provided for students with learning disabilities. In light of these legal and institutional variations, the most important service we provide is preparing the student to advocate for their own academic support as they transition to the college environment.
